Scratch Lab Live feat. DJ Big Jacks
This past week the homie DJ Craig Brooklyn, invited me down to his show at the Scratch Lab Institute to rock live on their Ustream channel. I had the opportunity to play whatever I wanted and decided to bring it on that good ole boogie, funk, and soul vibe. There’s a lot of under the radar heat in the set and some of my personal fav selections. If you love that stuff like I do then you’ll enjoy this! The show is 2 hours long, my set starts around the 31:59 mark and runs for about an hour (don’t mind the quick commercials that happen periodically). Go check it out!
Backroad Radio – May 7th 2012 *3 hour show*

We lost yet another hip hop legend as the one and only MCA (Adam Yauch) of the Beastie Boys passed away from cancer last week. The Beasties have been making music since the early 80s and are one of the most influential and creative hip hop groups of all time. We paid our respects to MCA on this week’s Backroad with a throwback of Beastie Boys classics courtesy of Bozack Morris. If you’re not fuckin’ with this, check your head.
We had the extremely talented and soulful Shi Wisdom stop by the show to hang out with us, discuss her new record “take the L” and talk about her smash record “lovespeak” that has taken the city by storm. In our eyes she’s set to be one of the next big acts out of Canada so you definitely need to keep an eye out for her if you haven’t yet.
LA’s own Casey Veggies hits Toronto this week on the last stop of his Canadian tour. To get your prepped we put together a mini Casey Veggies set mixed by Big Jacks.
And of course there was tons of new music throught the 3 hours courtesy of Big Jacks and Royale including heat from: Nas, JD Era & Raekwon (prod by 9th Wonder), A-Game & Luu Breeze, Roc Marciano, ASAP Rocky, Bumpy Knuckles, Burd & Keyz, and lots more.

pics from leant (april 27th, 2012)

Those Grandgroove DJ’s took the steering wheel this time around, as they present to you a new party called Leant, an excursion through your favourite club rap classics, southern fried flavas, west coast bangers, stripper motivated anthems, and whatever else goes hard in the paint. Myself, Big Jacks and Royale came through and took a capacity filled Augusta House back to the trap, and this is how it looked! Photography by yours truly. Check it out!

Nas was the talk of the town this week with the release of his new joint “daughters”. It’s been a long ass time since we really gave him the shine he deserves so we went in with a special Nas spotlight courtesy of Royale. The segment included controversy too as we weighed in after to discuss our thoughts on his career. See if you agree with what we said.
The homie 4th Pyramid stopped by to talk to us about his new album “Pyramid Scheme”, which features collaborations with Saukrates, Marco Polo, Greg Nice, and Rich Kidd to name a few. We also got 4th’s take on his current favourite pornographic websites.
New music this week courtesy of Big Jacks and Bozack. Peep the heat from A$AP Rocky, Big KRIT, Casey Veggies, Raekwon, Wiz Khalifa & Juicy J, Homeboy Sandman, TRA & Adam Bomb, Action Bronson and more.

Backroad Radio – April 23rd, 2012 *3 HOUR SHOW*
It’s been two years since we lost one of the most distinctive voices in hip hop, the one and only Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal aka Keith Elam aka Keithy E The Guru or just plain ol’, Guru. Let’s be honest, while he made some amazing records as part of Gangstarr and even solo he also made a fair amount of questionable records along the way. In this tribute to him we made sure to cover all aspects of his career. If you’re a true fan of hip hop and Guru’s legacy you’ll definitely enjoy Big Jacks’ set and our discussion about him. RIP.
With LEANT just a few days away we thought we should continue to get you prepared with what you can expect that night. Royale came with the Leant type vibes with joints from Outkast, T.I., Dipset, Master P, Lil Scrappy, and others. Ride to this, sip sumthin’, drank sumthin’, and get leant with us on Friday April 27th.
and of course we had lots of new music this week courtesy of Bozack. Peep the standout joints from Homeboy Sandman, Puzzle & Paradox, Caution Da Don, TRA, and more including that brand new A$AP Rocky record which we kinda like.

PS. This record was WAY too dirty to include in our Guru set on air but we can’t have a Keithy E tribute without including one of the greatest recorded moments in his career…
pics from the fundamentals (03.16.2012)

Once again, the Fundamentals crew throw down for another edition and this time we are joined by one of our cities best DJ’s, Jr. Flo of Keys N Krates. If you were fortunate enough to catch him in action, you know why he’s one of Toronto’s best. If not here are some pics to give you an idea!

Backroad Radio – April 16th, 2012

Thankfully, no holograms were needed for the Backroad staff or our guests this week!
Jane From Finch stopped by to talk to us about her life, music and why we should watch her grow. She definitely has an interesting story to tell and best believe she’ll make you listen. She hit us with some bars and we ran her track “break the silence”. Look out for her!
Our monthly guest DJ spotlight, get busy, returned this week with DJ James Redi (pronounced Ready) as our featured selector. He delivered a dope set of new heat and exclusive joints. We also had a chance to chop it up with him afterwards about his recent accolades, award nominations and everything else he’s got under his belt.
The new music came courtesy of Royale with joints from Meek Mill, Kanye West, E-40, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Big KRIT, Mobb Deep and more!
Speaking of the Mobb we spoke on the updates in that whole twitter rant Havoc went on last week. The more we learn about this situation the more hilarious it all sounds! Don’t tweet away the pain Hav.
and lastly, we couldn’t let this week go by without speaking on the Tupac hologram performance at Coachella. Were you as tripped out as we were? Tupac resurrection for real.
