brand new funk – friday may 28th, 2010 @ toika (471 richmond street w.)

posted by Bozack Morris on May 14, 2010 in Events

So the copy for the “Assorted Goods: Too Deep” sucks. Here’s the write up for the Brand New Funk party Big Jacks & Mensa is putting down @ Toika (471 Richmond St. W.) on Friday March 28th. It’s gonna be a crazy jam. The copy for the “Assorted Goods: Too Deep” sucks.

Quoting DJ Mensa:

Brand New Funk is a celebration of the unfamiliar, the road less travelled, and the forgotten but not yet gone. Today’s iTunes playlists are well past their expiry dates. No one cares to unearth gems anymore. But in an effort to dig, tweak, and find new ways to play the old standard, what emerges is the Brand New Funk.

No better DJ is an example of this sound more than DJ Quartermaine. Formerly of indie hip-hop act Critically Acclaimed, Quartermaine earned his stripes as a prominent club DJ in the the musically rich, yet untapped region of Washington D.C. His tribute mixes to Raphael Saadiq, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, and Lenny Kravitz has given him internet cult status amongst music lovers, and new fans worldwide. He is currently touring with Oddisee promoting his latest project, Diamond District.

Where Wale, UCB, and Tabi Bonney are its few crossover heroes, Quartermaine’s claims the Low Budget Crew (Kev Brown, Kenn Starr, Oddisee) as champions of a scene often overlooked for bigger east coast markets.

However, what is lost by general public, is the gain for those who know.

Welcome DJ Quartermaine as he brings the Brand New Funk.

assorted goods: too deep – friday june 4th, 2010 @ toika (471 richmond street w.)

posted by Bozack Morris on May 13, 2010 in Events

So the write up on the flyer sucks. I have to admit that Myself and Alex Delarge of Liveagl.com ended up rushing to write it so we can bang it out and get the flyer ready for a print deadline. Regardless I doubt this write up will be much better. As we all know that isn’t a reflection of the party, so come join us on Friday June 28th @ Toika (471 Richmond St. W.) as we submerge into the deeper vibes and sounds of Assorted Goods. See you there!

It’s the return of Swerve. The party that pretty much started it all for us! It’s been over a year since the last one, and it was about time we brought it back! Our boy DJ Eleven from NYC’s The Rub came through and held it down alongside Big Jacks, Royale, Big Philly & myself, Bozack Morris. Check the photos courtesy of Bezel Photography.

Alex dimez “all out” video featuring bozack morris

posted by Bozack Morris on May 4, 2010 in Press

For those that don’t know, I’ve been doing things with my peeps Alex Dimez and the Just Entertainment fam for a minute. I got invited to the video shoot one cold winter morning and being a fan of the record, I had to come through just to show love. Somehow I found myself getting an acting role. So here it is now. Check me out gripping a bottle of Jagermeister and stumbling around to rap music!

Shouts out to Bonxx of Ryder Vision and Alex Dimez!

Ryan Leslie – You’re Not My Girl (Big Jacks’ Call Me Mix)

posted by Big Jacks on May 3, 2010 in Remixes

We’re back with more remix randomness! Ryan Leslie’s “you’re not my girl” gets a modern soul makeover courtesy of yours truly! I kept the vibe smooth with the help of the late-80′s R&B sleeper “Just Call” by Sherrick to accompany R Les’ vocals! Grab it now, share it with your peeps, and 2-step to this!

Lil’ Wayne vs. Major Lazer “Holdin’ A Milli” (Big Jacks’ Blend!)

posted by Big Jacks on April 7, 2010 in Remixes

Here we go with some new blend/edit/remix flava for you courtesy of the taller half of BR! I decided to revamp a modern day classic from your homie Lil Wayne by throwing his “a milli” vocals over Major Lazer’s “hold the line”. A new twist on an old favourite! Throw this in your ipod or in your mix set! For my DJs, the blend comes with an intro for easier mixing and is available in clean and dirty versions! Feel free to share, and enjoy!
